Champion Dashboard

Lifelab Studios creates programs for various groups, Journey.do in the case of juvenile justice.

Youth go through learning modules and write stories that get reviewed by officers. I designed and implemented several improvements and features within this system to impove how these processes were completed.

The Problem

Member Progress

The primary role of officers was to oversee member progress. This was shown in limited scope and only reflected in superficial updates. Part of the objective was to better display the member's progress through the journeys, contextualized with the business model.

Story Reviews

A core job for officers was to review and approve youth stories. While the review itself worked, previous story submissions were not shown.

Emphasis on Youth

Youth are the focus of this platform, many of them like seeing the progress they’re making. However, all there was to show was a sparse profile, which was also the only area to see their previous stories.

The Process

Identifying the service model

As part of this product journey, the service model was rethought and reflected a more complete and holistic "come-alongside" service. This service model needed to become a core part of how the product reflected youth progress.

Capability Mapping

As the Champion Dashboard became more complete, there needed to be alignment with how features from the previous Learner App could be carried over, to allow officers to primarily work in a dedicated dashboard to better support youth stories, track their progress, and celebrate their accomplishments.

The Solution

Member Progress

The primary role of officers was to oversee member progress. To empower that role, members were shown within a consolidated table view. The introduction of status flags organized and displayed what step of the service model members were on, and lastly the horizontal layout visually displayed journey progress as members completed certifications.

Story Reviews

A core job for officers was to review and approve youth stories. Introducing a two-column layout allows story to be shown alongside actions needing to be taken. As the officer reviews the story, module goal and story criteria are highlighted to allow for easy reference. Lastly, since not all stories are approved on the first go-around, previous story submissions are accessible.

Emphasis on Youth

Youth are the focus of this platform, many of them like seeing the progress they’re making. I ensured that the account data is more viewable within the user's profile, and that Stories and certificates are easily seen and filtered. To celebrate the youth's accomplishments, I introduced a timeline to showcases their achievements and progress.
