Connected Diabetes Management

Glooko is a connected care platform that helps people with diabetes sync their glucose, insulin, and health devices to be viewable within a mobile app. The mobile app pairs with a clinic, where a patient's health care provider can then view and monitor their data via the web-based dashboard.

I was given to opportunity to work on both products.

While the mobile app remains as a powerful touchpoint for the patient, the old mobile app had several shortcomings, with a complicated onboarding process, unclear data visualizations, and a general lack of visual clarity.

This presented an opportunity to redesign the existing mobile platform into a tool that can better service complicated diabete care routines.

Problem


Difficult Onboarding Process

The onboarding process of the mobile app proved to be confusing and difficult to navigate, preventing users from understanding the value that Glooko could provide. An in-depth look into the onboarding flow led to a wide-scale redesign of the mobile app, with an updated layout and visual language.


Disjointed in-clinic to home experience

When patients would visit the clinic and get their data uploaded, they wouldn't continue their data connection to the mobile app, or even know that the mobile app existed. Because of this, several clinics weren't aware of how patients could sync from home.


Research


Mobile Usability

Usability tests were conducted on the mobile app. The findings guided the new designs of the mobile app, aimed at improving onboarding, home screen clarity, and providing new value through better visualizations and trends.

Activation

Collaborating with the data science team, I worked on understanding where users were dropping off the activation funnel and ideated ways to better ensure they were able to use Glooko at home.

Solution


Redesigned Mobile App

After many iterations and development, we released the redesigned Glooko mobile app experience. The redesigned app has since been used by 3+ million patients worldwide. Read more about the release here.


Activation One-Pager

As part of the activation funnel, new patients who hadn't synced to Glooko yet were given a customized QR code along with their patient report in-clinic, allowing for them to easily scan and install the Glooko mobile app. When they did so, their information was pre-filled and devices pre-selected.
